Studying – and living – overseas is a remarkably rewarding experience which can provide a wealth of new opportunities; also, it can bring many challenges. During this course, students will explore how others have adapted to their new lives abroad – including building a sense of confidence, community and cooperation – and provide students with linguistic skills to help them prepare and live overseas. All four skill areas – listening, speaking, reading and writing – will be covered, but the emphasis will be on oral expression via group discussions and presentations.

DAY 1:
 (1-2限) Introduction + Class survey
 (3-4限) Nature and nurture: How personalities are formed.
DAY 2:
 (1-2限) Our personalities: A short presentation
 (3-4限) International relationships
DAY 3:
 (1-2限) Case study: A dilemma
 (3-4限) Building a sense of community
 (5-6限) Proposal: Building a sense of community overseas (1)
DAY 4:
 (1-2限) Proposal: Building a sense of community overseas (2)
 (3-4限) Immigration in the United States
DAY 5:
 (1-2限) Immigration in students’ own countries
 (3-4限) Studying abroad: An introduction
DAY 6:
 (1-2限) Studying abroad: Some similarities and differences
 (3-4限) Studying abroad: Presentations
 (5-6限) Course feedback
