Tokyo Tech students are invited to participate in Summer Institute of Extended Flipped Education / Social Science Masterclass organized by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

 

The program will include:

– Tai Kwan Heritage Site Visit

– West Kowloon Cultural District Visit

– HKUST Campus Orientation

– Welcome Lunch + Farewell Dinner

– Understanding China 1700-2000: A Data Analytic Approach by Prof. James Lee

Information 

1. Period: 16-23 July, 2023

 

2. Place: The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, China

4.Eligibility  

(1) 18 years of age or older enrolled in a Bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral program.

(2) English language ability: IELTS 6.5 or above, TOEFL (iBT) 85 or above

(3) Applicants should attend the interview (see “10. Selection”).

(4) If selected, applicants must be able to conduct prior learning in accordance with HKUST’s guidance.

 

5．Fees       

Program and shared accommodation fee: 1,000 HKD

Participants should cover travel costs, overseas travel insurance, transportation, and other personal expenses during the program. There will be chances to receive a scholarship from Tokyo Tech. (MEXT scholarship students and Foreign Government Sponsored students are not eligible for this scholarship.)

* A copy of an email that shows your academic supervisor’s agreement is acceptable.

(You do not need to obtain the supervisor’s signature or seal.)

(2) Copy of Official Transcripts

*The copy of your GRADES LIST from Tokyo Tech Web System is acceptable. M1 students and D1 students are required to submit their transcripts from the previous course.

(3) Certification of English language ability

*Certification is not required of IGP student.

8．Application procedure

10．Selection  Nominations will be based on document screening and interviews which will be held on February 2 (either 9:00-10:00am or 1:30-2:30pm).

 

11．Notes     

(1) The program is subject to change/cancel due to the Covid-19 situation in Hong Kong. In case of cancellation, it will be informed to the prospective participants 1 month prior to the schedule.

 

(2) If selected for the program,

– Pay the fees in accordance with the HKUST’s instruction.

– Apply for a visa if necessary, as soon as possible. If a visa cannot be obtained prior to travel, participation will be cancelled.

 

(3) Submit a 海外渡航届(overseas travel report), and a 出発届 (departure report)  via T2APPs. (See here for details.)

 

(4) Purchase insurance whose policy covers at least JPY 30 million for medical treatment and rescue expenses and JPY 100 million for personal liability, as well as enroll in Risk Management Service.

 

(5) Submit a completion report after participation in the Summer Institute, and cooperate in the promotion of study abroad in Tokyo Tech study abroad fairs, etc.

 

AEARU (The Association of East Asian Research Universities) is a regional organization founded in January 1996, with the goals of forming a forum for the presidents of leading research-oriented universities in East Asia and of carrying out mutual exchanges between the major universities in the region.
